Power Outage & Partial Power Loss

Half the house dark, one room dead, or everything off while the neighbors have power? We find whether it's your panel, your wiring or the utility — fast.

When power disappears from part of your home, the cause is usually one of four things: a tripped or failed breaker, a lost connection at the panel, a failed splice buried in a circuit, or a utility-side problem with one leg of your service. Each looks similar from the kitchen but gets fixed very differently.

Our troubleshooting starts at the panel with meter readings on both service legs, then follows the dead circuit to the failure point instead of guessing. If the problem is on the utility side — a dropped leg or damaged service drop — we document it so your power company acts quickly, and if it's on the house side we repair it on the spot whenever possible. Partial power loss with lights half-bright in some rooms can indicate a lost neutral, which can damage electronics quickly, so treat that combination as urgent.

Frequently asked questions

Why is half my house without power?
Homes are fed by two 120-volt legs. When one leg fails — at the panel, the meter or the utility connection — roughly half your circuits go dead while the rest work. We test both legs at the panel to tell you in minutes whether the fix is ours or the utility's.
Some lights are dim and others are too bright. Is that serious?
Yes — that pattern often means a lost or loose neutral, which lets voltage swing between circuits and can burn out electronics and appliances. Unplug sensitive devices and have it looked at promptly.
Should I call the utility first or an electrician?
If the whole neighborhood is out, call the utility. If it's only your home — or only part of it — an electrician can isolate the cause; if it turns out to be utility-side, our findings help get their crew dispatched faster.
